Drinking electrolyte water is healthier than drinking regular water. Electrolytes are a good source of sodium in fluids like water, Gatorade, and Powerade. Even though I like the taste of flavored electrolyte drinks, it should just be a supplement to your daily hydration routine, especially in hot climates. Also, getting electrolytes from water is actually healthier than the sugary electrolyte drinks.
Several research studies have shown that electrolyte water rehydrates the body faster than regular water. You don’t even need to drink as much electrolyte water as regular water or flavored electrolyte beverages. I think electrolyte water tastes better as well. Filtration controls the PH level in the water. This means that electrolyte water is less acidic than tap water. Something that people often bring up about electrolyte water is that it is more expensive than other waters. But the good thing is you actually don’t need to drink electrolyte water all the time. For example, you don’t need electrolyte water if you’re not sick or dehydrated. I have to drink a lot of water here in the desert, and since I can get easily dehydrated, I choose to stick with electrolyte water! In summary, electrolyte water is better overall for health and wellness. I encourage anyone to try it for a week or a month and compare how it makes you feel versus the extra cost. For me, I’d even pay for it out of my own pocket whenever I can, mostly because of how it makes me feel and that I think it really tastes great. You should too.
